Hindcast of an enhaced Pan-arctic Ice-Ocean Modeling and Assimilation System (PIOMAS) with 12-category sea ice thickness distribution (ITD), lead width distribution (LWD), floe size distribution (FSD), and melt pond distribution (MPD)

PIOMAS has varying spatial resolutions for the Arctic Ocean and adjacent seas

Hindcast period available: 1980-2023

Hindcast atmospheric forcing: NCEP/NCAR reanalysis

Data include: monthly mean sea ice thickness in m (heff.H), concentration in area fraction (area.H),
and lead width distribution in area fraction (glwd.H)

Data files are in binary format

Fortran codes are provided to show how to read relevant binary files: read_360_120.f, get_glwd_glnd.f,  get_weff.f

Relevant model grid info files are provided such as latitude and longitude at
each model grid cell, and model domain mask

Specifically
read_360_120.f: shows how to read various model output in binary format
get_glwd_glnd.fread_360_120.f: shows how to convert LWD in area fraction to LWD in lead numbers
get_weff.f: shows how to calculate mean lead width using LWD in area fraction
 
The enhanced PIOMAS data are generated with the support of the NASA Cryosphere Program (80NSSC20K1253), the Office of Naval Research (N00014-22-1-2346), and the NSF Office of Polar Programs (NNA-1927785).
